After their parents died, Abel and his sister survived by begging food from neighbors. They tried to go to school, but had trouble learning because they were so often hungry. When Abel was 13, he and his sister came to one of our local partners seeking food and shelter and an opportunity to continue their educations.
With support from our local partner, Abel became an outstanding student and scored exceptionally well on the 12th grade national exam. Upon receiving his results, Abel rushed to Youth Center to thank his teachers for the English and computer classes — and the many many hours of help — they had provided. Today, with scholarship support from us, Abel has graduated from the University of Addis Ababa and is launched in his career. He continues to be very involved with the Youth Center and is a wonderful role model for the younger students.
